Mistborns, Writing Resolutions and Spring Semester

School is baaack.  What the what?! I can’t believe that it’s already 2010 and that Christmas break is over. My writing resolutions have been going well, most of my work so far has been terrible so far. I have no real ideas quite yet, but am sketching out a few things that will hopefully take shape as the year progresses. I do know for certain that I want to write for teenagers around fifteen or sixteen, so hopefully my talks with students will jostle some of these ideas into motion. I feel sometimes like my brain is a bit like a rock tumbler, banging ideas around until they are smooth, and round.

Since school is back, I am once again on my hour-long commute between Atlanta and the boonies. My current audiobook is Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series, which I am really enjoying, his main characters are well-rounded and his prose isn’t the usual Tolkien fanboy drivel that permeates most fantasy novels. Not to mention that one of his characters is a fairly badass teenage girl named Vin. I like anyone who writes teenage girls to be strong, capable and three-dimensional.
